South Asia Bulletin – Vol 2, Issue 11 | July 2024

Indian elections produced a surprising result, cutting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to size without a majority. Yet Prime Minister Modi was sworn in as prime minister for the third consecutive term, leading the National Democratic Alliance. Heads of many South Asian countries participated in Modi's swearing-in. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Beijing, seeking to bolster security and investment relations, whereas China wanted security for its investments and people in Pakistan. Nepal faces an imminent change in government (yet again).
