The third edition of the Nepal Competitiveness Index (NCI) study ranks Nepal’s seven provinces based on 64 indicators (across four environments). In addition, from this year onwards, NCI incorporates key findings from our annual provincial competitiveness perception surveys to provide stakeholders with more realistic issues for intervention across all seven provinces. The survey consisted of interviews with 280 business executives representing all seven provinces, collecting their perceptions on key aspects of provincial competitiveness. Moreover, considering Nepal’s LDC graduation plans, NCI 2025 includes a brief chapter discussing interlinkages between ODA and provinces leading to 2026 and beyond.
The NCI is an ongoing collaboration between the Nepal Institute for Policy Research (NIPoRe) and the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Since 2021, we have been analyzing the competitiveness ranking of Nepal’s second province to support better the Government of Nepal’s efforts to decentralize economic activities.
