The fourth edition of the Nepal Competitiveness Index (NCI) study ranks Nepal’s seven provinces based on 64 indicators (across four environments). In addition, the NCI 2026 presents findings from the annual provincial competitiveness perception survey, which highlights the ground realities of seven provinces based on our interviews with key private-sector stakeholders working across different districts in all provinces. Finally, the NCI 2026 includes a thematic chapter on “Fiscal Federalism and Provincial Budget Performance” to support Nepal’s ongoing and future efforts to further strengthen the overall performance of the provincial governments.
The NCI is an ongoing collaboration between the Nepal Institute for Policy Research (NIPoRe) and the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Since 2021, we have been analysing the competitiveness ranking of Nepal’s second province to better support the Government of Nepal’s efforts to decentralise economic activities.
